Explaining the HPMemes hiatus

You might have noticed the lack of tweets from my @HPMemes twitter account and I feel like I owe you all an explanation. This will be personal so you can of course stop reading if you don't care. No worries. ;)

First of all, I might just regret putting this up within the next 5 minutes, but I'm going to publish it. Yes. I will. *gets nervous*

Secondly, it's not that I stopped liking Harry Potter or anything like that. I don't think one can leave something as important as this book series is to me behind.

Well, the explanation. There are multiple reasons for my absence:

I don't think I was a "twitter addict", but the truth is that I was fixated on it, I checked it constantly and it was wearing me out. And I have to admit it, twitter is a big distraction when it comes to school work.

The most important reason is that my own problems, life and school work are more important to me than twitter. There's lots of drama on Twitter, and when you have enough problems of your own this can be quite.. overwhelming. I've been dealing with some things for a while and I've come to realise that the only way for me to fix this, is by working on it.
Some accounts can be a giant set back or "trigger". Reading everyone else's problems when you can't even deal with your own isn't very helpful either. That's mainly the reason why I left Twitter. This sounds exceptionally selfish of me and it kind of is. At this moment I'm choosing to be selfish for my own sake. ("I am selfish. I am brave.") This sounds more dramatic than it is. Whatever.

I assume no one really missed me, but hey, for those who read this or did notice me being gone. You got your explanation! [Don't hate me]

I'm not deleting this account because I will be back. Not now, not soon, but you can count on it. (And come on, with the Fantastic Beast film around I will have to talk about it, duhh)

Potterheads, you're an amazing group of people. I've honestly never met kinder, crazier and funnier people online. Socialising with you is great, and it's not in real life which is a big +.

I might get someone to tweet for me: I'll tell you when/if that happens. I'll still check my mentions once in a while so if you want to say something: please do!

Stay magical.

Nox, Potterheads!

Your weekly dose of horrible fanfiction!

Yes. This is a thing. Thank me later.

Or not..

A warning: these stories are all M-rated, and they're all pretty horrible. Run while you still can.

So.

Still reading?

You will be mentally scarred.

Still here?

How badass.

Sure?

Here we go, then!

First of all, why?

Why would I voluntarily read horrible fanfiction? Well, it's quite easy: I don't have anything better to do. So, I will give you all some links and reviews of stories every week. It's going to be awesome!

This little post won't be very long and detailed, it's more of an intro.

Here we have our first ever crazy fic:

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4695163/1/The-Whomping-Willow-s-Adventure

A beautiful story about the Whomping Willow and the Ford Anglia (the car owned by the Weasleys). Isn't that nice? I especially liked the part where the Whomping Willow held Ford in a nice embrace. Aww. Adorable.

This fic was joke, said the author. A very weird, disturbing, weird, funny, weird and awesome story. Go and read it.

PS: the next story will be 10 x more horrible. Oh yeah!

PPS: read some disturbing fics? Comment the link below!

PPPS: the phone/laptop/Ipad/etc/ bites.

Richard Griffiths

31 July 1947 - 28 March 2013 - 65

Dear Richard Griffiths,

I didn't really believe it at first.
No one, of us fans, had expected it.
It was a shock.

But this is mainly a thank you.
Thank you for bringing Vernon Dursley to life.
Thank you for portraying him so perfectly.
Thank you for being a part of our childhood.
We couldn't have asked for a better Vernon.

You were amazing.
You still are.
You legend.

We will always remember you.

My thoughts go out to Richard's friends and family.

HP Crossovers

Part 1 - Sherlock [BBC]

Harry Potter and Sherlock don't really have anything in common, right? THINK AGAIN! Harry and Sherlock are both.. err.. British.

So, what Harry Potter/Sherlock things are there? You have, of course, the crossover fanfictions, which are absolutely amazing! Really, go and read some. There are about 280 stories, varying from John and Sherlock being Hogwarts students to Moriarty working together with the Death Eaters! The majority of these stories is Johnlock (the John/Sherlock ship name), and yum, what's not to love? The link with all the stories is at the bottom of this article.

Then there's the fanart. Thank you Tumblr! The Sherlock characters are sorted into different Hogwarts houses, let's see if we agree.

I adore this pic, it's just.. perfection. Moriarty is in Slytherin, you'll just have to agree, sorry. John is in Gryffindor, and Gryffindor being the house of the brave and those with lots of courage. It's a good choice. Then Sherlock as a Ravenclaw. Ravenclaw's traits are wisdom, intelligence, originality and individuality. So, I can see why Sherlock is a Ravenclaw. And Molly, probably the sweetest girl on the planet as a Hufflepuff. The house of dedication, hard work, patience, tolerance and kindness. Hufflepuff is an understandable choice. And last but not least, Irene Adler, as a Slytherin: self-preservation, cunning, ambition and intelligence. Yup. That's a fit.

I told you there'd be Johnlock
Let's take another one to compare. Aww, look at John and Sherlock. Aren't they cute?
John's a Hufflepuff here, which is quite likely as well. John's very loyal, a hard worker and extremely dedicated to his work, friends, etc. And our consulting detective is a Snake.. Which is understandable, since he is very intelligent, quite cunning and also very resourceful.

So, everyone has their own opinion as to where people should be sorted but here's mine:
Sherlock: .. hmm, Ravenclaw. But my opinion changes extremely often when it comes to him.
John: Hufflepuff. I think. Sometimes also Gryffindor.
Moriarty: Slytherin.
Irene: Slytherin.
Molly: Hufflepuff, although I do think she has Gryffindor qualities.
Anderson: Muggle.

And what do you think? In which house do the Sherlock characters belong and why?

And here's the link, enjoy!

March 10th - Happy Birthday Remus!

HAPPY 53TH BIRTHDAY REMUS LUPIN aka our favourite DADA teacher!

I wanted to give you some facts, so I went looking for them on the interwebz (look at me being funny with letters). The first one that came up: "Remus Lupin is a werewolf". No shit, Sherlock!

Anyways, here are some facts you might enjoy!

1. Remus' first name comes from Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome. They were raised by a she-wolf. Lupus means wolf in Latin and Remus' Potterwatch name is Romulus. Well done, JKR.

2. Remus' nickname is Moony, not Mooney. It's misspelled in PoA (film) as an inside joke to Karl Mooney, the visual effects supervisor.

3. Remus' middle name is John.

4. He was killed by Antonin Dolohov May 2nd 1998. *moment of silence please*

5. He has a sweet-tooth. *cough* chocolate *cough*

6. Remus actually shipped himself with Filch. Weird, right?

Oh right, one of the above isn't fact. Ha ha. Which one could it be? Excuse my non existing humour.

Have a magical day, Potterheads! :)

Worst fanfictions ever?

Ah, yes. Worst fanfics ever. My favourite topic to discuss.

Also the topic I despise the most, but whatever.

I am going on a journey to the center of the.. fanfiction database.. to find the worst, most disgusting and most disturbing Harry Potter fanfictions ever! Isn't that just awesome? (rhetorical question, don't answer it.)

I'll be making a list for you, so you can enjoy the beauty of these crazy ships. Making this list won't be easy, nor will it be fun.. Okay, it will be fun. Sometimes. But I do require your help, Potterheads.

So, do the following quiz and find out if you're useful to me!
1. Do you like Harry Potter?
2. Do you like reading (fanfictions)?
3. Are you not easily mentally scarred?
4. Are you able to write normal sentences in English?

If you answered the above with "yes" and you feel like doing something "useful", then: WELCOME TO THE TEAM OF CRAZY FANFICTION READERS!

Go and find the craziest stories, read them, send me the link, give me your opinion and together we shall make the best, aka worst, list ever! You could also just send me a link of a story, via my twitter account or here, as a comment.

Some ships to get you started:
Hermione/Sorting Hat (ew ew ew)
Hogwarts/Giant Squid (erm...)
Umbridge.. with anyone, really
etc.

So, I hope you join. That'd be great!

PS: The worst fic I ever read was Snape.. with 4 other.. friends. You might find that one, and if you do: I'm so sorry. Stay strong.

And don't go looking for it..
You're looking for it already, aren't you..?
May Godric have mercy on your soul.

Fanfiction 101

Fanfiction - you either love it, or you hate it.

Or rather, to the world of fanfiction!
Or both. Or you can hate loving it. Or love hating it. It's possible. Trust me.

Of course, I will discuss Harry Potter fanfiction here! And yes, I know, most of you already know /everything/ about it, but hey, it’s nice to go back to the basics for once.

DEFINING FANFICTION – a trip to urbandictionary.com:

“Fanfiction is when someone takes either the story or characters (or both) of a certain piece of work, whether it be a novel, tv show, movie, etc, and create their own story based on it.

Most people think fanfiction is just a way of letting someone’s favorite characters having sex. And yeah, I’d be lying if I told you that most fics are decent, well written pieces of art. But most of you who also have been spending way too much time reading fanfics would agree with me when I say that there are some great stories on there as well!

So, I could tell you everything about fanfiction, or I could tell you to go out and find out about it yourself! I’m going with the latter. Really, even if you already know a lot about fanfiction, try to find some new ships to read about. I, for example, set myself a goal to read about as many different ships as possible. Yes, even the bad ones. You might end up liking ships you hated before! Although some might dislike that.. *cough* people like me *cough*

Hermione is done with it, guys!

I suggest you go to fanfiction.net, since it has a lot of fics, a useful search engine and mainly because it’s the site I use. Enough said!

Here, mainly for the newbies, some words you definitely need to know when you start reading fanfiction:

Ships: a ship, from the world “relationship”, stands for a pairing. Most ships also have a ship name, for example James and Lily is named Jily. Knowing that, it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out what Romione or Hinny stands for. And then you also have the “weird” ones.. Yes, I’m looking at you Weasleycest and Malfoycest shippers. And "cest" as in incest. So yeah. No hate, though.

Canon: a story that is true to the original.

Headcanon: a story/detail of a story which is made up by fans. Like, Harry is sorted into Slytherin and BAM, it’s Drarry time.

AU: alternative universe: some aspects of the story are different from the original book, movie, etc. It could also be a whole different universe, for example, there never was a school called Hogwarts, and Harry meets Ron at .. uhm.. the pub or something. It's all possible!

Fiction ratings – these are used on fanfiction.net:
·         K: Story is suitable for all ages – aww, cute stories
·         K+: children over 9 years of age – cute
·         T: teens, 13 or older – getting somewhere
·         M: older teens, 16 and older – yup, there it is
·         MA: 18+ * - well..
*MA has been banned from multiple sites, also from fanfiction.net.

Cross-over: Two different stories are combined in one fic. For example, Voldemort and Sauron are working together. Or the Criminal Minds cast solving a murder at Hogwarts. Or maybe a Portkey takes Harry to Camelot. Everything’s possible! And with everything, I mean e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g..

Slash: gay sex – or just homosexual pairings.

Different worlds: in the Harry Potter fanfictions you have the following worlds/era’s:
·         Pre-Hogwarts: what happened before Hogwarts; Harry’s life at the Dursleys.
·         Hogwarts: this one should be pretty clear.
·         Post-Hogwarts: what happened after the Second Wizarding War
·         Founders: about the Hogwarts Founders
·         Marauders: James, Sirius, Remus, Peter, Lily, Regulus, etc.
·         Next generation: Scorpius, Lily Luna, Albus Severus, Rose and so on.
Lots of feels.

OTP: One True Pairing, or in other words: someone’s favorite ship. As in, thinking about it 24/7, making fan art, writing fanfictions and of course, crying when you think about it. The life of a fangirl isn't easy.

Fluff: fanfiction with lots of romantic, happy, cute content. Not like smut (sexual/erotic), angst, etc.

POV: Point of View, that is understandable, right?

Gen: when a fanfiction is described as “gen” it is written for a general audience. Without slash, headcanon, etc. –  ah, I didn’t know this before.

NC-17: this is originally a rating system for movies, but you’ll definitely come across this when you’re reading fanfiction. It can be compared to M-rated fanfiction.

Mary Sue: a character, usually female, who is perfect in every way. They usually get in a relationship with the main character, or help them. A Mary Sue is usually written by a beginning author, and many readers describe them as “annoying”. A male version is called Marty-Stu or Gary Stu. - you should all thank my friend for this information.

Chickron -  I ship it
So, that was that, And yes, there is so much more than what I mentioned in this blog, but this is what you really need to know. Next articles could be about “weird ships”, “best/worst fanfictions”, and so on. You’ll just have to wait and see.

Not that I would like to read weird ships, of course.. No. Not in the slightest. *nervous laugh*

"Weird ships are cool!" - my dear friend, who's also going to be my beta reader. Thanks in advance!
